Being in Two (or More!) Places at Once is Possible in These Destinations
There is something truly magical about standing in literally two places at once; it almost can make you feel like you have accomplished Time Travel or will be getting your letter from Hogwarts any day! The following bucket-list destinations are popular because they are not only culturally unique, but they straddle state, country, and even hemisphere lines.
Four Corners, USA
(New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, and Colorado)
Hoping to visit all 50 states? Well cross four off your list all at once by visiting Four Corners, USA, the spot where the corners of New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, and Colorado meet. There are dozens of beautiful national parks within walking distance, so this destination is perfect for outdoorsy adventurers. Prefer to take in the views by car? Check out “The Grand Circle”, which takes you on a loop through all four states that make up the four corners.
Quito, Ecuador
(Northern and Southern Hemisphere)
Forget two states: a visit to Mitad del Mundo in Quinto, Equador allows you to stand in both the northern and southern hemisphere simultaneously! The country gets it’s name because it lies on the equatorial line, and a visit to Mitad del Mundo allows you to take a stroll down the 0°, 0’, 0” latitude line, which separates the northern and southern hemispheres. It’s the most visited spot in Equador, with good reason!
African Quadripoint
(Zambia, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Botswana)
As if traveling to Africa for safari wasn’t exciting enough, while there you can visit the African Quadripoint, a one-of-a kind spot where four countries meet: Zambia, Zimbabwe, Namibia, and Botswana. This is the only spot in the world where four countries intersect. This attraction is close to the Botswana’s Chobe National Park and surrounded by the Zambezi and Chobe rivers and is both a beautiful and unique place to visit.
Thingvellir National Park, Iceland
(Eurasian and North American Tectonic Plates)
Located along Iceland’s Golden Circle just outside of the capital of Reykjavik, Thingvellir National Park is significant not only for it’s astounding beauty, but because while there you can stand in between two continents, at the point where the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates connect. For millions of years, these plates have been separating at a rate of two centimeters per year. While there, you won’t be able to miss seeing (or taking a dive in!) the Silfra Fissure, an icy glacial water river separating the two plates.
Rainbow Bridge, Niagara Falls
(Canada and the United States)
If you are both an engineering and geography fan, you must check out the Rainbow Bridge in Niagara Falls, a beautiful spot that connects Canada to America. You can cross the bridge by car, bike, or on foot, assuming you have proper documentation to cross country lines. Head to the Niagara Falls Observation Tower if you’d like to view the bridge from a distance, and hopefully even get lucky enough to spot a rainbow overhead.
