The Best Beaches To Visit in the Fall
When we think of beaches, we typically put our travel dates in two categories: 1) spring break/summer vacation or 2) the dead of winter. But some special beaches have their time to shine in the fall! Here are five to look into next time you are wanting to sneak away in October or November.
La Jolla Shores, California
With average temperatures in the upper 70’s, low chances of rain, and a quieter tourist pull than in the peak summer months, fall is a perfect time to head to La Jolla Shores, California. The San Diego area offers much to do both on and off the beach. Take in a beautiful hikes, head to the San Diego Zoo, or dine at one of the countless foodie spots the area offers.
Huntington Beach, South Carolina
If you are a wildlife lover, the three mile stretch known as Huntington Beach in South Carolina might be the perfect spot for your next fall beach destination. Huntington Beach State Park is recognized as a top bird watching destination, with over 300 species present in the area. As summer crowds thin, it is easier to spot wildlife, which makes traveling to Huntington Beach in fall a top choice.
Playa Grande, Costa Rica
Playa Grande is located on Costa Rica’s northern coast on Las Baulas National Marine park grounds. This beach plays an important role in the survival of leatherback turtles. Nesting season begins in October and if you head south to Playa Grande during this time, you’ll be able to watch the female leatherbacks lay eggs in the sand. Apart from this amazing wildlife opportunity, Playa Grande also has some of the best surfing around.
Eagle Beach, Aruba
Many wise tourists know to avoid the Caribbean in the fall months due to hurricane season, but even wiser tourists know that stunning Aruba sits below the hurricane belt, and therefore the picturesque island is hit with many less tropical storms. Because of hurricane season, fall is the most economical time to head to the Caribbean and take advantage of lower crowds and ideal flight and accommodation pricing. Old Orchard Beach, Maine
Summer in Maine sees an influx of tourists who come for warmer temperatures that are only seen for a few months. If you can handle a cooler ocean breeze, however, fall is also beautiful in Maine! When there make sure to try a beloved lobster roll, and head to the only seaside amusement park in the vicinity, Palace Playland, which remains open through the fall months.
