Five Destinations that are Surprising Affordable to Visit

We all have a list of vacation destinations we would love to visit, but are high or over the price range of what we are willing (and able) to do. However, your next vacation might be more affordable than you think. We did a little digging and found five exotic locations that you didn’t realize you could afford to visit.

Reykjavik, Iceland

Topping our list is fitting, as it’s located in our featured destination for the month: Iceland! Reykjavik is known for it’s beauty and affordability. Flights are not as long as expected and relatively inexpensive compared to other international spots. There are many affordable hotels and hostels, and the street food scene is second to none. The main way you will save big, though, is renting a car and exploring the country’s beauty. Check out one of the many free hot springs and catch a glimpse of the allusive Northern Lights, both of which along with the rest of the country’s beautiful views are free.

Oahu, Hawaii, United States

With more airlines traveling to Hawaii than ever before (including Castaways Destinations’ resident favorite: Southwest!), flights are cheaper than they used to be to get to the USA’s most tropical state. To save on accommodations, consider staying a few blocks off of popular Waikiki beach, which you help you save a pretty penny and you’ll still be sleeping in paradise.

Lake Como, Italy

Here us out on this one. This glamorous destination can be doable! The key to to stay outside of the central lake. The city of Como has affordable lodging and safe, public transportation makes it easy to get around to see all the beauty the area has to offer. Make sure while you are there, though, to head in towards the lake to hopefully do some celebrity spotting, as Lake Como is a pull for many Hollywood and famous visitors.

Jerusalem, Israel

Visiting the Holy Land is a bucket list for many, and if you are able to make your way there you will find many of the historical sights visitors travel to see are free! While lodging can be high, you can find some smaller, more boutique style hotels to rest your head in the City of David.

Jerusalem, Israel

Athens, Greece

Similar to Jerusalem, your stay in the ancient city of Athens can be affordable, thanks to mostly free sights. When you get hungry, delicious street vendor scene and quaint coffee shops and delis can fill you up and not break the bank. Greece is high on many travelers’ lists on places to see, and it can be done with some creativity and the planning help of your favorite travel agents.
