Don’t Leave it All to Luck: Our Top Travel Tips when Planning a Trip to Ireland

A very Happy St Patricks Day to you! A trip to the Emerald Isle is a magical place to visit for countless reasons and is the perfect trip for every type of traveler: young or young at heart, multi-generational, large groups, basically everyone! While it’s a relatively easy destination to visit, there are some tips and tricks we have learned that will help make your journey even more carefree.

Lucky Number 7 is the Ideal Trip Length to Ireland

Some international destinations beg for a long, extensive trip to see it all, and there is no doubt that there are so many treasures to be found in Ireland that you could easily spend upwards of a month there. However, most visitors spend around seven days in the country. With the size of the island and the ease of transportation, this proves to be an ideal amount to time as you will be able to see most of the country without feeling rushed.

Pack for Four Seasons No Matter What time of Year You Travel

The weather in Ireland is known for being both wet and unpredictable, so make sure to pack multiple layers and be prepared for sunny weather one minute and rainy the next. In fact, most days in Ireland see at least some rain. Don’t let cloudy skies get you down, though: the lush, green landscape is the beautiful benefit of all of those wet days. Another plus to the ever changing weather? There’s all the more chance of spotting a rainbow while there!

Make Sure to Leave Dublin

Dublin is Ireland’s most well known city, with good reason! The architecture is quaint, the pubs are rowdy and jovial, and there is plenty to see and do. Transportation from the city is also incredibly simple so it is easy to take day trips from Dublin to see the rest of the countryside. However, to really experience Ireland try spending a few nights in some of the lesser known towns; you will get a feel for the non-touristy parts of the island and also save big time on lodging!

Rise and Shine to Visit the Cliffs Of Moher

The Cliffs of Moher are stunning and an absolute must when in Ireland. They will no doubt be high on other visitors’ lists as well, as they are the most popular tourist attraction on the Emerald Isle. To experience the view as uninhibited as possible, plan to head early (preferably 8:00 am or earlier) to experience the beauty of the Cliffs before tourist busses and groups arrive.

Experience the Irish Countryside by Car

Traveling by train or bus through Ireland is relatively easy and inexpensive, and a great way to see the country. Tour buses are also readily available to take you and other travelers to all the most popular sites, usually with a charasmatic Irishman at the helm. However, if you are able to rent a car (or even better: a driver!), do it. Some of the best spots in Ireland will no doubt be pubs and restaurants you stumble upon and the most memorable experiences will be the people you will encounter: they truly are some of the nicest and most welcoming around! So grab a rental car or hire a driver for a few days and take your time experiencing Ireland at your own pace. You won’t be disappointed!

Don’t Let Your Budget Stop You from Visiting the Emerald Isle

Traveling anywhere abroad is not a cheap affair. However, when compared to other spots in Europe, Ireland is one of the more economical countires to visit. This is most likely due to the large population of students traveling abroad and people backpacking through the country. So while some areas, specifically Dublin, can rack up quite a bill, it is definitely possible to see Ireland without spending your entire pot of gold.

One budget savvy tip is to avoid traveling in July and August, when overall travel prices are at their highest. Our peak months to visit? During “shoulder season”: the months of April, May, June, and September and October, where prices are lower, crowds are smaller than peak months, and the weather is still manageable.
